Healthcare

HealthcareRichie supports a single-payor healthcare system optional to all Americans.

In other words, one will not be obligated to participate. It will involve the expansion of the present government programs medicare, medicaid, veterans administration and federal employees (including members of Congress). It will be financed by savings from the present system which already costs approximately twice that of healthcare in other countries. Additional funding, if necessary, will come from increasing the level on all income, not just wages, subject to social security deductions.

A critical part of this healthcare system will be an emphasis on preventive medicine and healthier lifestyles. This lifestyles component will include increased taxes on alcohol and tobacco products and greater exercise opportunities especially in schools.

America can no longer afford its present system. It is too costly putting us at an
economical disadvantage in a competitive world economy. It is not a cure-all and there is much to be done. However, it is a start and will help Americans to have healthcare at a level and cost other nations already enjoy.
